SimpleOne Releases ITAM 1.8.0 with Barcode Scanner Support and Automated Asset Cost Calculation

SimpleOne has released version 1.8.0 of its IT asset management system, SimpleOne ITAM. The update cuts equipment inventory time, extends asset tracking beyond warehouses to specific offices and rooms, and frees finance teams from manual calculations when costs come in multiple currencies.

The headline feature in 1.8.0 is barcode scanner support for warehouse inventory audits. The system already lets teams run inventory checks with a mobile phone camera; now they can connect an external scanner that reads the barcode carrying an asset's inventory number. This speeds up audits in large warehouses — a scanner reads tags faster and more accurately than a phone camera, and the data is checked against the asset list and added to the inventory report automatically, with no manual entry involved.

Version 1.8.0 also introduces a new task type: location-based inventory. It lets teams recount assets by their actual place of use — a specific office, floor, or room — rather than by warehouse, even when the equipment is formally registered to a different warehouse in the system. This is especially useful for companies with a distributed office network: you can run a targeted check of a single department without launching a full warehouse inventory.

1.8.0 also automates the calculation of total asset costs, currency conversion included. Previously, if costs for an asset were recorded in different currencies, working out the true cost of ownership meant pulling the numbers together manually in separate spreadsheets. Now the system automatically totals every cost tied to an asset and converts them to a single currency at the current exchange rate. Finance and IT leaders get an accurate picture of asset costs without extra number-crunching, so they can decide faster on repairs, replacements, or write-offs.
